I’m grateful to share that our work received the Best Student Paper Award at IEEE CDC 2024.
What was recognized?
The awarded work develops a geometric approach to direct policy optimization for the LQG problem.
Technical contribution (short version)
Instead of optimizing over redundant Euclidean parameterizations, the method uses an intrinsic Riemannian viewpoint on controller representations. This leads to stronger convergence properties and improved computational behavior.
Why it matters
It shows how geometric optimization can materially improve policy-search methods in classical control settings, with implications for broader learning-based control design.
